Day one is just the beginning

Welcome to the Ernst & Young page for Waikato Management School students and staff.

Ernst & Young is a global leader in assurance, tax, transaction and advisory services. If you're an undergraduate or graduate, choosing where to launch your career is an important decision. Here we include the profiles for three of our current staff who are graduates of WMS.

Nicole White started as a graduate at Ernst & Young in February 2008 after completing her Bachelor of Management Studies (First Class Honours) degree. She is now working as a Tax Consultant in the Auckland office.

The Ernst & Young recruitment process was the most efficient recruitment process as everything was completed in the one day! Therefore, it was a lot less stressful than other long drawn out processes. Everyone was relaxed and the meet and great session gave you a real feel for the firm.

We were assigned a buddy on the first day, which was brilliant because they answered any questions we had (no matter how silly!). My buddy had been at Ernst & Young for about a year, so she knew exactly how it felt to start at a new firm, putting any anxious jitters at ease.

The people make the firm. I have made some awesome friends since I joined Ernst & Young. We have quarterly tax functions, monthly firm-wide drinks and other social club events (including a yearly ball!), which allows you to get to know your colleagues outside work.

A highlight has been working with such a diverse and interesting range of clients. My client portfolio includes large multi-national companies, to small New Zealand owned enterprises, and individuals requiring personal tax advice. Because there is such a range of clients, it keeps the work challenging and there is always something new and exciting to take on.

I chose Ernst & Young because I could not pass up the opportunity to work for such a well respected global organisation. Ernst & Young offers great training and provided me with an environment where I could further my career and obtain my chartered accounting qualification.

Andrea Waters joined Ernst & Young in 1999 after graduating with a Bachelor of Management Studies (First Class Honours) degree from Waikato University. She then had a six year break from 2002 until 2008 and is now back with us working as a Senior Manager in Assurance based in Auckland.

Working at Ernst & Young is diverse, challenging and fun. No day is ever the same, which provides for continuous learning and opportunity.

During my time at Ernst & Young I've worked with a diverse and interesting range of clients, enabling me to progress and grow.

There is always a new challenge around the corner, and Ernst & Young's people first culture means there is no limit to what you can experience and achieve.

I work with a great range of people, which really sets Ernst & Young apart.

Damian O'Connell started at Ernst & Young in 2000 after graduating with a conjoint degree in Law and Management. Damian is currently working in Advisory (Risk) and has worked at Ernst & Young from 2000 - 2003 and 2009 to present, making him one of the many employees who has left and come back to work for Ernst & Young.

There is always a new challenge and something else to tackle, the variety of work and challenges mean you never get to rest in your comfort zone. Consequently, you develop your skills and capabilities without even being aware you are doing so.

What sets Ernst & Young apart are the people I work with. As a graduate I joined Ernst & Young because the people involved with the recruitment process positively differentiated Ernst & Young for me. This initial positive impression has subsequently been reinforced many times over and one of the primary reasons I enjoy coming to work each day is the quality of the people I work with.

I have had very good coaches and mentors. Ernst & Young provides tremendous support and encouragement from people who are interested in not just broadening your professional development but are also interested in your development as a person.

The last thing I learned was that you never stop learning!

Graduate and Summer Internship Programmes
