Employment Skills Module (ESM)

All students enrolled in bachelor degrees at Waikato Management School - the BBA, BBus, BCS or BMS(Hons) - are required to complete a free Employment Skills Module (ESM) as part of their qualification regulations.

The Employment Skills Module includes four workshops that cover the topics of planning your career, writing a CV and cover letter, job interview skills, and your employment rights and obligations.

You can sign up online for ESM workshops via MyWeb/Moodle, or ask staff in the Management Student Centre for details.

Do I have to do this module?

Yes, regardless of your background the Employment Skills Module is a compulsory requirement for your bachelor's degree, and you must attend all four workshops. You will not be able to graduate until you have completed the ESM.

I'm studying at the Tauranga Campus - do I still have to do this module?

Yes, our Tauranga students are required to take the Employment Skills Module as well. We offer ESM workshops periodically in Tauranga, so check your emails to see when the workshops are being offered.

I'm studying a Graduate Diploma - do I still need to do this module?

No, students enrolled in a Graduate Diploma are NOT required to do the Employment Skills Module.

I'm studying part-time, what do I need to do?

You will still need to complete the ESM, and have until the end of your first year to do so.

I've transferred from one qualification to another and the ESM was not compulsory under my initial qualification. Do I still need to take it?

Yes, you must follow the current regulations for your new qualification from the year you first enrol in it - your initial qualification regulations no longer apply.
