These are some of the many scholarships available to school leavers, undergraduate and postgraduate students at Waikato Management School, listed in order of closing date for applications.

School leaver scholarships

Bartlett Scholarship (Accounting)

Closing date: August

A $1,500 scholarship for school leavers who enrol full-time in the first year of a bachelor’s degree at Waikato Management School, including at least one accounting paper in the year of tenure.

Brian Smith Memorial Entrance Scholarship

Closing date: August

A $1,800 scholarship for school leavers who intend to enrol full-time in the first year of an undergraduate degree at Waikato Management School.

Buckley Scholarship (Accounting)

Closing date: August

A $1,500 scholarship for school leavers who enrol full-time in the first year of a bachelor’s degree at Waikato Management School, including at least one accounting paper in the year of tenure.


Undergraduate and Postgraduate scholarships

Tauranga Chamber of Commerce Business Scholarship

Closing date: February

This scholarship assists members or employees of members of the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce who wish to enrol for the Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies (PGDipMgtSt) programme at the University of Waikato in Tauranga. The scholarship has a value of half the programme tuition fees for two years.

Waikato Chamber of Commerce Business Scholarship

Closing date: March

This scholarship assists members or employees of members of the Waikato Chamber of Commerce to undertake study in either the Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies (PGDipMgtSt) in Hamilton, or Part One of the Waikato Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Hamilton. The scholarship has a value of half of the tuition fees.

Discover SWUFE Summer School Scholarship

Closing date: March

This scholarship gives two or more Waikato Management School students (second year and above) an amazing opportunity to enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to China for a two-week summer camp of lectures, field trips, tourism and cultural activities, along with 60 other students from around the world. You will be guests of the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), one of China’s leading business schools. The camp takes place in July, after Semester A exams. Flights will be paid for by Waikato Management School.

Waikato Management School International Exchange Scholarship

Closing date: Mid-March for B Semester exchanges, and early August for  A Semester exchanges

This scholarship provides up to $2,500 for current students of Waikato Management School (second year and above) to study at one of our partner institutions overseas. Applicants must be accepted into the University of Waikato’s overseas exchange programme. The value of the scholarship varies according to study destination: Europe $2,500; USA, Canada, and Mexico $2,000; Asia $1,500. WMS gives out 12 of these scholarships each year; six in A Semester and six in B Semester.

Brian Perry Charitable Trust Business Management Scholarship

Closing date: April

A $2,000 scholarship for first-year students of Waikato Management School who intend to enrol in their second year of study for an undergraduate degree the following year. The scholarship is offered on the basis of academic merit, as well as leadership potential, sporting interests and community involvement.

EY Scholarship in Accounting

Closing date: April

A $2,000 scholarship for current students of Waikato Management School who are majoring in accounting, and have already completed the papers ACCT231 Management Accounting and ACCT202 Intermediate Financial Accounting. The scholarship also includes two days’ work experience at an Ernst & Young office in New Zealand, and fast-track entry into the EY assessment process.

University of Waikato Summer Research Scholarship

Closing date: August

A $5,000 scholarship for students at undergraduate (third year and above), honours and first-year masters level who wish to undertake a 10-week research project over summer, from November to February. Preference will be given to applicants who intend to continue studying at the University of Waikato. Open to both domestic and international students.

Start-up Waikato Scholarship Programme

Closing date: October

A $5,000 scholarship for current students or recent graduates of the University of Waikato who want to get their idea for a business start-up venture off the ground. Start-up Waikato is a 10-week mentoring programme that runs in Hamilton from November to February. If you’re interested in doing the programme in Tauranga, see the Project Ignite scholarship.

Project Ignite

Closing date: October

A $5,000 scholarship for current students or recent graduates of the University of Waikato and Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology in Tauranga who want to get their idea for a business start-up venture off the ground. Project Ignite is a 10-week mentoring programme that runs in Tauranga from November to February.
